2020 Camping Hacks That Actually Work

To have the best camping experience, you need to be prepared for anything. This means you need to know how to get the best use of your camping gear and find ways to make your trip more comfortable. We have researched and asked our own camping enthusiasts for some simple camping hacks that would come in handy. In other words - they really, really work.

Duct Tape - You should never go camping without duct tape. Sure you already know that you can use it to patch up tears in your tent, sleeping bag, knapsack or even jackets. You can also use it to keep your food packs sealed. But here are some cool camping hacks that involve duct tape:

1. Use it to make a spear - Yep. You can tape a camping knife at the end of a stick and you have a fishing spear. Wrap the knife tightly at the edge of the stick using duct tape; make sure it is not wiggling around before you start catching fish.

2. Use it to make a rope - A non-load bearing rope, actually. Still - you can use your duct tape rope to secure gear around your campsite. Just coil two strands of tape together and you have a rope. To create a thicker rope, just coil more tape together.

Sleeping Bags- Sleeping bags have other uses aside from - well - sleeping. You can use them to keep your clothes warm. Clothes left in your backpack overnight can get very cold when you put them on the next morning. Spare yourself the discomfort by bringing clothes you'll wear the next day into the sleeping bag with you.

Fold the clothes up and wrap them in plastic bags if you like. The heat from your body and the insulation from the sleeping bag keep the clothes warm all night. This way, changing clothes the next morning won't be uncomfortable at all.

Cotton pads dipped in wax - These make for great fire starters. A campsite, after all, is not complete without a campfire. Problem is, not everyone is very skilled at starting one.

Buy cotton pads (those small square or round ones) and soak them in wax. Store them in an airtight plastic bag and they are ready to use as firestarters. If you do not have wax, Vaseline also works. Either way, it is far easier to start fires with than a flint.

Another thing you can use as a firestarter is trick candles. You know those annoying birthday candles that you can't just blow out even when you're starting to go blue in the face? Yep - those things make for great firestarters - since well, they just won't stop burning.

Vegetable Peelers = Mini Soaps - You do not have to bring an entire bar of soap for a weekend camping trip. Use a vegetable peeler to make small, single-use bars. You can store these in small plastic bags that do not require a lot of space in your knapsack.

Burn bundles of Sage - Toss bundles of sage into your campfire to keep insects away. It smells great too so everybody wins.
